En el mes de agosto de 1979, en la calle Martí y 11 avenida de la zona 2 capitalina, miembros de las fuerzas represivas del Estado de Guatemala vestidos de particular, ejecutaron con disparos de armas de fuego a Gustavo Adolfo Soto López. Gustavo era estudiante de Derechos de la Universidad de San Carlos, activista del Bloque Estudiantil Organizado (BEO), fue miembro de la Coordinadora Estudiantil Ejecutiva de la Asociación de Estudiantes Universitarios (AEU).
